So I was looking at buying a Dansco album for my lincoln cents because I am falling in love with pennies. I go through coin rolls and I was wondering if proof coins are ever found in the rolls. I am undecided on whether to get the album without proofs or with proofs.

I don't roll search, so others will have to be more specific on numbers. I am guessing average you may find a proof coin once per 50 customer wrapped rolls (CWR). Its condition could be anywhere from proof quality to poor, with most simply a proof with a scratch or other marks. It would take a lot of searching to fill a Lincoln Cent album of proofs and business strikes, even if that's possible.

OUt of probably the few hundred boxes of cents I have searched ove the last 3 yrs. I probably have found 3-4 proofs. I have found more 98 and 2000 Wams then proofs.

I had a similar issue when I transitioned from folders to books as some of the books have slots for the proof only issues. I have had real good luck at a couple local coin stores to fill these NIFC slots. Most Proof cents run for about $3 to $5 each in 2x2's.
My collection is primarily circulation or roll pulls but it is almost impossible to fill holes with proof only coins so I tend to buy them instead.

Out of 500,000 cents searched, I've found three proof cents. But you should purchase them if you really want to have them in your collection.

Once in a while you will find one. It was much more common in harder times the 20's- 40's. I have one proof from the 30s in a circulated grade but I didn't find it in a roll. Keep looking.

Unless they're early, none are expensive to purchase (memorial and late wheats)

Hard to tell from my pics, but I found this on this past weekend. I have only found three or four.

I'm with Thad - out of what seems like a million, I've found only 1. I think if you're going to put the proofs in an album, they should look like proofs and not be impaired.

Only have found one roll with any proofs. Fortunately there were five in that roll.

I am still learning here, but how do I determine that the coin is a proof?

I found this 1987 S proof a few weeks back. It's the only proof I've found in a bank roll. There's some cool Machine Doubling in my opinion too, you can see it in picture 3

I think finding a proof, however, would be awesome. I am probably going to shell out for most proofs and over time itll be fun and worth while. Its a new realm of coin collecting called ebay that I get to experience lol.
