Silver BRITANNIA items are beautiful and do trade well.

However, I think the reason for their high resale is the apparent rarity here in the US.

Does anyone know of any domestic vendors I work with?

Yes welcome to the board by the way rgathright!

Let me ask you as not to pry into what you paid for the four 5 oz. rounds, but what do they go for on average when silver is around 30 an oz. as it is climbing back up close to that now, as I may look to add some of those down the road as well one day?

In person, the 5 oz Taku is a beautifully minted coin with excellent surface contrast. (Newbie to the terminology).

Scottsdale Silver supplied mine and did a fine job. http://store.scottsdalesilver.com/p...-Silver-Coin

Quote from Mmerlinn, " I am buying aluminum and iron in the form of transmissions, transaxles, transfer cases, etc at 50 cents on the dollar while the prices of aluminum and iron are in the tank........ If it follows normal history, we should see $2000 gold by Easter"

Hello Mmerlinn, I have been stock-piling copper,(not pennies), I would love to hear what you think of that scrap metal and its future.
I got my Silver,( ASE), on Monday! when spot was at $28.75! I say that is the low for the year end!
Thanks Mmerlinn for all your help!

Typically copper tops out around Easter in most years. However, looking at a copper chart, I have reservations whether it will happen next year. Copper looks way overbought to me just waiting for something to send it in the tank to half of what it is today.

I see copper in a tug-of-war between tanking and being pulled higher into Spring. My gut says it will rise into Spring, but be a weak market, and will possibly tank bigtime after Easter. Mostly guess. Right now copper chart says down down down to me.

mmerlinn, I used to be in recycling when I was much younger and I really appreciate your insights even though I am not in a position to participate in the scap market...though I'd like to be!

How did I really get into PM's? Well many years back a lot of medical places did those old fashion x-rays. That meant they used a lot of chemicals to develop these x-rays. Thus since silver is used on the film material it came off in the fixer. SO I would stop and collect these 55 gallon drums that were of course loaded with silver. Then I would sell them to the guy that extracted this silver.

Made some nice money, rented a U-haul and did this every weekend. I then took the money paid expense and bought silver and gold with what was left.

Heavy work at the time but worth it.

Today I collect junk, well not really junk but scrap steel and when I can cast. Copper can be found but most everyone wants to keep it. When I get as much as I can store it is off to the junk man. I then convert this money into mostly silver.

I love cast and around here I got every bit of it for free. People still burn a lot of coal and those old cast soft coal boilers have just so long of a life.People just want then out of their basement so it is easy money on the weekend for a guy that has a truck, trailer and not afraid of some heavy lifting.

I call it my source for free silver and gold and it has done well though more and more people are starting to learn the value of scrap.

Well silver has been hoping around in-between 28-29 bucks lately, and again as often pointed out, the prices on ebay are kind of reflecting the fall but not really. I just watched one ASE end for $36.33 with free ship and another from same dealer a minute later for 37.36, and most seem to sell right around forty bucks or more on buy it nows....

I did click the buy it now only button, and then put in a price range from 40 bucks to 30 bucks, and the best price BAR none I could find on ebay on BUY IT NOWS, is a solid deal on new mint 2011 at $37.95 free shipping.....

I also found a nice colored ASE that many avoid like the plaque in a capsule for 38 an Free shipping, not too shabby, even though I am in no position to move on any more silver for a couple of weeks or so....

Re: junk / scrap

Yes, there IS good money in them and people really are waking up to that fact. In a slow economy, a lot of people are out there hustling for whatever they can to pay the bills. I have long hoped that design engineers would consider the ease of recycling in their initial designs. Making disassembly easy would go a long way towards conserving our natural resources. The jobs created by this activity is also a nice bonus.

Thank you Sir! I have seen the same thing, but it is hard for me to not cash in when Copper goes over $3.50/lb.(that seems to be its magic number just like $50/oz. for silver.....after that it seems to always drop!). It was there just about a week ago, then really dropped. What surprised me was how fast it recovered, (faster than Gold or Silver). I like staying with one metal, I tried to store/hoard alum, copper, and brass but it was just too much.
I also worry about cashing in too much scrap at one time. I can fill up the pick-up and csh in $1,000-$2,000 worth. But then all the scrap workers wanna know "where you get all this copper? Howed you do it?", etc..... Is there a max I should know about?

I have also learned to shop around when cashing in! I have driven an hour or more and doubled my price on more than once.

Thanks again Mmerlinn!

This is something I just don't understand? I know that e-bay is fun, but I went into my local shop this past Monday and he gave me ASE's, mixed dates, for $32.25 each. Now I did pay local sales tax but that took it up to just over $33 each. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I just sold some stuff on ebay for doctor bills money. ebay is offering this "List 50 items a month for FREE!" deal, but they still get their 9+% on the sale price....... then Paypal,(who I hear is owned by ebay!), gets their 3-4%.
How can the seller of that silver be making any money?

I try to buy nicer higher premium items, so as no one can really complain about the higher marked prices. And I also try to group together larger lots which are a mix of unique bars and coins which commands larger amounts of money. You can find 50 to 100 oz. of silver in many different ways, but the lot I put together is always gonna be the only thing like it for sale on ebay when ever that time comes to sell....

OK Silverhawk, that makes more sense! Also I just went back and re-read your post ref. "in a capsule". I am buying loose/handled ASE's, mixed dates, so maybe that's why I get the deal I did. I still need to pick up a ASE 2011!
