I attend a couple of local auction houses when I can - and sometimes you get lucky. I think I was lucky last week. So lucky that I've actually scanned the receipt as I suspect most people won't believe me. Ignore the braclet in the centre - that was just a present for sombody. So the following coins I got for £26 plus a few pounds commission. I'll list a few of the pictures - but basicially all the British pennies, half pennies and farthings - plus the Indian Head cents were on the card - all the rest were in the tin. Pics of the better coins to follow

The star of the show odds and sods and misc. rubbishy silver There are a goodly lot more but they are lesser coins. Overall quite a good hall. That Iraq silver coin and one of the Victorian pennies were the stars though. thanks for looking :)

Great buys, looks like a great selection of coins. Will we be seeing some for sale on the forum?

What coin is that star of the show, is it Saudi Arabian, and why is it the best.
Love the Vickies, keep posting pics (:

No - I didn't pick up any from Saudi Arabia in these lots - The 50 fils from Iraq - just under where I typed "Star of the show" has a high catalogue value (my old Krause suggests $150 in EF).
Also the Victorian penny (one up from the bottom in the post that lists them) seems to be in good condition - possibly a hint of luster on the reverse).
I don't plan to sell any of them though.

I also noticed the traces of luster on the 1844 1d--could that grade was well as EF? There are a number of overdates for pennies/halfpennies during this time, some with a nice premium too. I would say you did very well for around £26!

The 1916s nickel is worth about 10 quid, 15 if it's a D. mintmark is a little hard to see.

Fantastic haul. Victorian pennies seem tough to come by in the US.
