So we are all aware of the fact that State Quarters are pretty much just worth 25 cents a piece and will be for quite a long time. I pulled a BU set out of circulation, and I'm just wondering if I should just cash them in at the bank and buy a single nicer coin with them. Do you agree that I should? (And should I do the same with my Presidential dollars?)

you could probably make a little premium over face if you sold them as a set. I'm for moving on whenever you feel the impulse to do so. While it is true that the Statehood Quarters won't become rare, I'm unsure of any rare coin that you'll be able to pick up for $25.

I would keep them personally....I am trying to collect them right now!

Well, I am looking to downsize a few sections of my US coins. SO these seem like a logical place to reduce. And I am more of a Darksider than a US collector. In fact, the only US coins that I collect are colonials and postcolonials.

Aren't all US coins either colonials of post-colonials? Seriously though, if you like them keep them, if not don't. There is probably no profit to be had in either the quarters or whatever you'd buy instead. It's a question of what you want to do, not what you should do.

I can see saving a set, or a set for each kid, but not piles of SQ.

I got rid of my duplicates recently, but kept the ones in the best condition.

I purchased a complete set of BU quarters about a year ago from a well-known online site. I purchased a Dansco album for them only to discover that the album(s) also had places for the Proof and the Silver Proof. I completed the whole set. It is really a nice, affordable and very pleasing set to look at. If it were me, I would keep it. JMO

I'd buy it off you for face value, but then again I have been in the US for one day since 2001, and in Europe those things go for like $1. So your best bet is to go to Europe, and sell them, you might make a little money back on your ticket.

I have one UNC set (rolled) in my top dresser drawer...it's not bothering me a bit. Actually just opened up the roll to look 'em over and over half of them have developed a GOLDEN TONE! Do what your "inner-collector" tells you!

I would say do what ever you feel is the best. no one else can really tell you what you can do. search ebay for complete sets and what they are selling for. if this is a price you are happy with and you want to sell them then go for it.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Actually my set is only about 90% complete. A few of them toned over the years and got removed. Eh, all in all they just don't interest me and are just taking up an entire row of a coin box. Since I am trying to downsize, and since 95% of the coin that interest me are ancients or darksiders, I just feel the need to purge a bit.

I always say that if you can afford to keep them (that is, you do not need the money), then keep them. The worst case is that you spend them five or ten years from now. Of course, if you need the money now to buy coins that you do want, then sell them.

jbuck- Yeah, it is not that I am that hard up for money; rather, I just think that State Quarters are not exactly that desirable, collectible, etc. And they are just taking up a lot of room. If I were to cash them in and also cash in my prez. dollar coins I would have enough to buy a single, nicer coin. And to be honest, I try to make my collection seem dissimilar to coins that one might use in a vending machine. A nice roman bronze would make me much happier than just glorified change.

Ah, I did not take storage space into consideration. Good call then.

OK, well I think that I will just cash them in at the bank. Holding onto them will just not really pay off in the end, and I am just not that fond of the designs.
