I just checked pcgs's price guide and noticed that the standard 2011-W eagle is now "valued" at $274. I know this issue has sold out- and finding an eagle for sell on ebay that is NOT a 25th anniversary release is tough (that's well overpriced too), but on what planet and by what metric do they arrive at this price?

Any ideas?

A lot of slabbed PCGS prices doesn't make sense, not surprise at all. It fluctuate over time, you should see this change sometime soon, if you subscribe to the PCGS Rare Coin Market Report you can check their daily price change, sometime it rise and drop as much as 50%.

I see it listed at $70 in PR69. The only thing close to $274 in 69 is 2011-S $1 Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set First Strike at $300.

The price has nothing to do with it being a First Strike, The 2011-S ASE is a key date limited to 100,000 total minted. The second lowest mintage in the history of the ASE program.

The OP has posted an incorrect price for the 2011-W proof. It's $70.

I'm basing that price on what PCGS tells me using their online registry checklist.

and I was wrong, it was not 274 but 278. Maybe it's a type-o on their part.
