I came across a 1956 D Lincoln Wheat Penney that seems to be an error coin. The head side of the coin has a very raised rim and the opposite there is no rim. The most odd thing is that it appears to be struck in silver. It is very shiny silver color and will not stick to a magnet. Has anyone ever hear of such a thing?

Aye I'd post a pic to the Error Coins forum and see if our battery of Lincoln Cent aficionados can shine some light on it.

The silver looks like it was plated. Not sure about the rim from the images provided. But if it was altered with the plating, then it was probably altered with the rim as well.

Is there any way to tell if it is plated?

This is definitely NOT an error coin of any kind. It is a coin stuck inside a bezel and plated.
