I've been collecting VG-EF Canadian 50cent coins for a while, both for its silver content (my interest in coins started with silver bullion) and as a foot in into the world of Canadian Numismatics (and what a world!)

This one here is my first purchase, done rather impulsively though. I've taken as good of a photo as I can muster and was hoping the gentlemen here can suggest what grade the coin is and whether I should get the coin professionally graded. My pictures are not doing the coin's luster and shine any justice though.

In retrospect this thread should've been posted in the grading subforum. My bad!

I would say MS60 to MS62 which would be between $425-$600 and it would probably be worth getting graded by a professional grader.

Looks like an AU details coin to me. The hairline scratches are a good indicator of a cleaning, and it looks like there is some wear on the high points of the coin.

Maybe a $200-$250 coin.

Generous graders here. I think your coin would grade EF40-45. Unfortunately I think it has been cleaned to. Still a very nice dollar that is desirable in any grade. A good choice for your first dollar purchase. Low mintage of approx 21,000. I'd value the coin at 225-275. If you bought the coin for the right price you made a wise purchase. I have 3 of them and am also looking for more of them if the price is right.

Cleaned and somewhat rough EF details. If there were not 3 different types of 1947 dollars the ML would be of a much higher value rivalling the 1948. Mintages are quite similiar 21k v 18,780. I buy any problem free 47 ML when I have a chance.

I just find it sooo funny about all the hype there is for the 1948 silver dollar when at any given time almost every grade is available on E-bay. However, the 1947 Maple Leaf with the same mintage, is sooo highly underrated and under appreciated it is very difficult to find in mintstate!

I agree with the EF and cleaning. Still, a great coin and I'm envious.
