Hello - Thanks in advance to those who are willing to weigh in. I am a new collector, and my enthusiasm far exceeds my knowledge. Found this one in my existing collection. In fact, this and the morgan I posted are about the extent of my collection. 1922 Peace dollar. What grade would you give it?

1922 Peace dollar was probably the most second highly circulated coin next to the 1921 Morgan dollar. I would concur with Westcoin in that your coin is a XF-45 (Extra Fine) and it's value is about $13-$14 dollars. Most, if not ALL, of that value is in the silver content alone and the coin overall value will fluctuate with the rising/dropping of silver on the market. Being a common date coin, your Peace dollar will probably never command much in premiums but still a nice coin in itself. :)

I agree with the previous posters as to the approximate grade. As for the value, given it has great eye appeal, I would say $25-$30. (Silver value around $22)

I'd put the value around $30 for this piece. I'd say XF45 in terms of the grade as well.

Can you guys maybe help educate me here? What are some of the things that are pushing the grade downward?
I thought that this would have been a higher grade, because there seems to be very little wear on the bust itself. Are the (assumed) bag marks the biggest issue? I wish I would have been able to get a better picture. This actually looks better in person, and has a rainbow tone on it.
Is toning desirable?

yes toning is usually desirable, in most peoples opinion anyway. The wear on the eagle's shoulder and back and the wear on Libertys hair, although it may not seem like much, actually puts it down that far. The bag marks help to degrade it as well. Peace dollars were weakly struck anyway and so grading can be difficult.

I will say AU-53 for the original coin looks to have some residual luster under that toning as well as solid feather and hair detail.
