I have a very large number of different type square coins, but almost all of them are machine struck modern ones. I have only one Mughal square rupee in my collection, and that is a different type to this one.

I would say that this coin is almost certainly Mughal, but I need to do some checking of my references to provide a more exact attribution.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a "temple token", not an actual coin. This zeno.ru example is of similar design.

Genuine "Kalima-type" square rupees of Akbar look more like this, with the writing outside the square almost completely off the flan.

Didn't click with me; it should have. I have a couple of temple tokens myself and the style is faily obvious for a temple token.

You need not hesitate to call it a temple token because it surely is.
