I personally wouldn't keep it because I have a bunch like that, but if you don't have any it's a nice educational piece.

The post that froms the 8's center is broken off. Thus the center won't be formed on you coin or anyone struck after that event.

Hi Coop, so does that mean that this coin could be one of a kind or one of thousands, I have not heard or seen any more like this. You have been collecting for a long time, have you seen this one before>? thanks

It may be one in hundreds/thousands/tens of thousands. Depending how many coins were struck after the pin came off till retirement of the die. Not extra value for this, just a Wheat cent value.

The same malady that affects "D" mintmarks from time to time, the post breaks off the die resulting in a "filled D". Population is literally impossible to estimate because of the variables involved. Some coin searchers simply put them back into circulation because they essentially have no added value to speak of. Others keep them as an oddity. It's a highly subjective thing.

Small die chips and breaks like this are a novelty at best and aren't really worth keeping if you've got the rest of the coin market in mind. Basically keep it if you want, but if you're only collecting coins that have merit and value to others - toss all the 'filled letter' coins - none of them have any marketable value. They are common and very, very few people would care to buy a collection of them.
