What does PP in "PP AVG" mean on early Byzantine coins. I figure one of the P's stands for "pius" from when it used to be PF, but what is the other P? I tried Google but didn't get anything.
David Sear, in the introduction to Byzantine Coins and their Values says PerPetuus or Perpetual (he who rules forever). The old Roman answer was Pater Patriae (father of his country). I do not know when or why the change.
