I was looking at a 1971 S tonight and noticed that it looks to have 2 or maybe even three strikes. Can anybody else help me out on this one? It could be MD I suppose but I thought that I'd better check before moving on. Thanks.

Question-About-A-1971-S-Date

It's kind of a crappy cropping job but it will give you an idea. Thanks everybody.

Multiple in-collar strikes is the same thing as Machine Doubling.

I think that one of the problems for me is lighting and getting a close and clear enough image to tell the difference between authentic die doubling and MD. The edges of the date serifs did not look flattened or shelf like under the lighting that I am using so it was hard to tell. Thank you both DrDon and Coppercoins for your help and Merry Christmas to you both.
