IS THERE REALLY A PERFECT COIN? IF YOUR BUYING FOR INVESTMENT THEN YES , THE 70 IS YOUR COIN. IF YOUR BUYING FOR THE LOOKS OF THE COIN, THAN THE 69 IS THE ONE.
MODERN COINS HAVE LOST SOMTHING IN MY OPION. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT THAT OLD YET. THEY DON'T HAVE THE HISTORY THAT OLDER COINS HAVE. LOOK AT AN 1807 BUST HALF. A 200 YEAR OLD COIN. LOOK AT WHAT IT'S MADE OF. HOW IT WAS MADE. WHERE IT HAS BEEN. JUST LOOK AT THE COIN ITSELF.
ANYWAY, WHEN COLLECTING A COLLECTOR SHOULD DECIDE FIRST WHY THAT COIN. WHAT IS MY PURPOSE FOR COLLECTING COINS, THEN GO FOR IT. MY OPION BUSTHALF

Yes, but what happens when you are a 69.5 man like myself?

I buy a coin for both the investment and for personal reason's, to me at this point their one in the same. So buying a specific coin I'm only looking at the enjoyment of owning it and to be honest with you must the time I can't tell the difference between an MS 69 and an MS70.
I do know that an MS 69 is easier to come by as far as money goes. So I can get the coin I want with a good grade and in the end I'm still making an investment that one day "hopefully" I'll see. If that doesn't happen then I'll still be happy with the coin I bought .

The difference between a ms-69 and ms70 or pr69 and pr70 is only one mans opinion at least that is the way it seems to me.

I haven't seen much difference between 69s and 70s. I know that there are way too many modern coins given those grades. I think the modern coins tend to be overgraded no matter who grades them.

Personally, there are series that I prefer to have a circulated coin. The Bust series coins fall into this category. I think they have better eye appeal because of the way that they wear and tone.

Just my opinion.

Coin grading reminds me of an E-Val in the military or your annual eval from your job, it's that individuals opinion. So I have to agree, it's an opinion and how much you really like and want a perticular coin.

Ultra-high modern grading ticks me off in the huge price gaps between a 69 and 70 that most people can't tell the difference between.

The only difference between 69 and 70 are the pop reports ,, grade too many 70'S and your deemed liberal, not enough and your viewed as tight and unpredictable and inconsistent.

Just follow the treads on TPG's and the discussion which follow in them around the forum,, and there is no other explaination for it .

as long as the TPG's control the grades then they control the money ,, and in essence the Hobby as it appears that every collector is at their mercy including the raw coin collectors like myself.

I agree with Susan concerning circulation coinage - I like a bit of wear on most of 'em.

But moderns? I do like some of them but, in my opinion, a "70" grade is an expensive ego trip. I can't see the difference between a "69" and a "70", so I'll take the "69" every time, and save a TON of money in the process
