With announcement that US Mint will reduce the production of dollar coins, is it too earlier to begin saving uncirculated rolls of President dollar coins? Banks always seem to have these rolls available.
BTW - Is there a particular way coins are wrapped that indicates they are direct from the mint or Fed?

The reason they are reducing production was because there is a surplus. There are too many coins for the little demand. Many millions of the coins probably still remain uncirculated and I don't see them increasing in value for quite some time.

The wrapper on rolls from the mint...say U.S. mint on them.

If you are looking at a bank, look for the rolls with the Presidents name stamped on it. Those will be uncirculated rolls.

The one on the left is the mint roll. Nothing wrong with keeping a roll of each MM if you have the money.

There are billions of these coins being stored by the government because no one wants to use them. There are billions more that are out in circulation. They said they stopped minting them presently, but never specifically said they wouldn't start up again. So I'd say keep a few if you're interested, but there's certainly no reason to hoard them.

What will happen if they never catch on? Didn't it take billions to mint them? So I assume that would be a huge loss that they'll never get back again. They'll have to eventually enter circulation, like it or not, but by then a dollar will be the equivalent of $0.10.

The one dollar note will eventually go away and the one dollar coins will eventually circulate. Eventually.

I don't see the Presidential dollars becoming popular any time soon. They were minted in huge quantities and never really used.

How to save the government money:
1) Kill the $1 bill. (Hee hee, Kill Bill) 2) Resume production of the $1 coin. 3) Profit.
It's unequivocally the best thing to do (despite anyone who will whine about taking their medicine).
