I have found this community to have a membership of experienced and helpful people. I have more questions that this group can, hopefully help answer.
I have a small, but growing collection of different coins that is out growing the metal box I originally started with. In addition, the coins are saved (stored) in many different forms; coin boards, books, coin tubes, loose in Tupperware containers. All of this put in a metal tool box.
First, I would like to receive ideas regarding the various types and models of Safes that I can keep the boards and books. Something secure, and, at this point, either used or inexpensive.
Secondly, are the coin books (Whitman brand, etc.) the best way to store the sets?

Thanks to all who contribute.

I've had luck with jewelry chests. After Christmas sales have scratched jewelry chests marked down for very little. I bought a couple from Bed Bath and Beyond for under $5 and have a quite a bit of my loose coins tucked away in them.

The coins I have in 2x2's are in those long red boxes made for them.

Photo boxes bought at Michael's for a few dollars hold a lot.

Rest in Peace

Two concerns, weight and value. A silver bar the size of a loaf of bread weighs around 70 bathroom scale #, and is worth around $30,000. You want it in a sturdy container and near the bottom of a safe.

You should really use the Search Tab at the top for safes, albums, folders, etc. Possibly almost all your questions would be answered there.
1. I suggest never using Folders for your coins. Folders are not Albums
2. I use all Albums, 2x2's, those 2 row Whitman Red Boxes for most of my 2x2's
3. A 3 ringed binder with those plastic pages that hold 20 2x2's is another item I use.
4. Most bulk types of coins are put into those plastic rolls made for them
5. A safe if OK but has a multitude of problems that you could find by using the Search Tab.
6. Any excessive valuable coins or Albums go into a Banks Safe Deposit box.

All above are good suggestions. Humidity (warm/cold damp) is the enemy of coins as is containers not made for the safe archival storage of metals that can corrode when placed in open contact with coins.

2x2s are good are good for circulated coins and placed in binders. Pristine coins of copper, nickel and silver should be stored in Air-Tites holders, and stored in tubes made especially to hold rolls of Air-Tite holders. Regular circulation rolls should be stored in coin tubes without the wrapping, unless the overwrap carries a premium. You really should not store any coins in loose containers unless they are headed towards the smelter. Some good places to get these supplies online:

www.valleycoin.com Shipping is fast and only $5.49.
www.jpscorner.com They have tubes for Air-Tites.
www.wizardcoinsupply.com Good selection $9.95 shipping over $50 order.
