Here is an 1883 no cent V nickel graded by NGC ms63 take a look tell me what you think.

busthalf - A little tip on scanning. Try to set your scanner to scan at 300 DPI. It's probably scanning at 96, that's why your pics are small.

Scan at 300, then crop, then resize to about 400-450 pixels on the longest side. You'll have much better pics on here then.

I have always been fascinated with the "No cents" nickels that were gold plated and passed off as half eagles... Only thing is, if you want to buy one, you can never tell if they are old or newly plated. For this reason I refrained from ever getting one.

wouldn't it be nice if you could get a v-nickel that had been plated to pass as a gold coin. but your right there would be no way to tell if it was for that purpose. it's one of those instances that we have to settle on the knowledge that it was indeed done.

You brought up a great point pattiewhack. Ive searched the web and it would be very difficult to find one with a reputable pedigree.
