I have a coin that I am considering bidding on that has some nice toning... but I'm not sure if it's real toning or shake and bake toning.

I don't want to post it because I don't want to advertise someting I might want to bid on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks//btw the coin is over 140 years old

Error,
Post the pictures with the date cropped or just the reverse picture.

Just make sure the seller has a good return policy and buy it.
Then you can decide with it in hand, and can show us a picture.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. It's really not the kind of toning that people pay a premium for.

From the images provided, the obverse has a splotchy, funky look to it and the toning actually detracts from the coin. I lean towards cooked, but would have to see the coin in hand or much better pictures.
If in doubt, pass!

thanks, actually the toning on the whole coin, without a blacked out area looks great imo.

I'm just not sure if it's been cleaned, treated, and baked.

The tone on the rev looks funny to me in relation to the obverse.

That one is too close to the line for me to endorse it. Yes, it could be NT, but for my money it isn't. Older stuff just didn't usually tone like that, so at best (in my opinion), it's modern toning over an older cleaning. I'd take a pass.
