First off id like to say Hello. I'm very new to the forums here and just as new tocoin collecting. I'm 100% on the silver bandwagon here and started collecting whatever silver I can find.

Ive been trying to convince my Dad that he should be investing in silver and hes having none of it. To show he uninterested he was he gave me a few coins hes had laying around for as long as I can remeber, and then a few that I've never seen befor. Some silver, some not but this one I just cant seem to find any info on.

1975-Silver-Dollar

Any info on it would be great,
Is it collectable?
Its not silver is it?
Whats it Worth?

I got 4 of these coins along with the others, be cool if they were worth something.

It is of course and old Canadian dollar before the loonie .It is not silver, but copper-nickel, it is collectable and easy to find, it is worth about $2 since they are very common. The dates of the silver ones are before 1968 ('68 being not silver), here are sites that should help with value estimates and knowledge on metal composition:

(edit: nickel not copper-nickel)

Composition is purely nickel, no copper involved. 3.256 million issued in 1975.

I never have figured out why so many were issued, we never used the blasted things. I mean you'd see the odd one passed into a till, but not all that often.

Welcome to the forum, stick around, lots to learn.

It's whatever the reasonable current available price is. I think ebay is trending about 36 bucks or so on them. 1 Million uncirculated sets made, another huge bunch of specimen sets in two versions and then circulation coinage (6.7 million flying geese alone).

So really it's price floats with the value of silver.

There are arguably only a handful of a key date circulation coins post 1936.

If you are interested in silver, watch what moves on ebay and check the bullion forum here. If you are interested in coins and collecting, this Canadian subforum is pretty rich in scope with some serious experts in their fields hanging out here.

Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins is a must buy for basic information. Published once a year.

Welcome cwalker. It's a nickel 1975 dollar with no silver content. Only worth a dollar in that grade. Anything we can help you with Canadian coins just ask and we'll do our best to help you. Found there to be lots of good Canadian coins in the US because when they got to the US they all were put away and never circulated. Keep looking and good luck.
Rest in Peace
