don't know what to think about this, everything seems to be PMD but it rather looks like a small D on top of a large D. hope the pics do it justice. what do you all think?

It is isolated Machine Doubling, caused by the mint mark hitting the retreating hammer die. Unusual.

The first question to ask when arriving at the hypothesis that you have a small D over a large D is whether there were two different sizes of mintmark punches that year.

The answer is no.

well thank you for your wonderful responses. being that you have called it "unusual" and someone said they like it, what sort of value would it have .02? lol or what...

None, really, if you are talking about listable numismatic value - but if you are talking about one collector having it and another one wanting it - I suppose a buck couldn't hurt anyone.

You have to admit that after looking at hundreds or thousands of cents, it is very unique. But as for value? You could throw it on ebay and see what it does. Somebody will buy it. It's just nice to see something different from time to time.....can you tell I'm in a dry spell of finding anything good? or unique?
Rest in Peace

I'm in a big dryspell too. I wouldn't put that on ebay unless you think there are a lot of uninformed collectors (actually there are) who would bid it up. That's the ideal dream-a lot of money for nothing.

lol, well I'm not a collector just noticing cool stuff once in a while as I go through pennies for fun with the kids to fill up their penny books. trying to learn as I go. . . but since I have an ebay bookstore I might just slip it on there, won't cost me anything if I list it on a free auction day and its fun to watch people pay a few dollars for a penny I just wouldn't want to advertise it as something its not. thanks for your help
