To me (relatively inexperienced) this penny strikes me as being very unusual and after trying to research it so as not to clutter the forums, I have had no luck. I initially thought acid erosion, however it is detailed in certain areas, and quite the opposite in others. There is only an unidentifiable mark where FG should be on the reverse side. I'm also wondering how if it were "cleaned" that it would still have such bold characters on it.

Please note that although my camera is not the best, the characters are very blurred and the color is as shown.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Looks like it could be one of two things to me. It's either coated with something or it's been treated with acid, I am no pro though.

It's either a coating of some sort or chemical PMD from an acid.

It looks to be cast, got that fuzzy appearance, but who would cast a 1968D Lincoln Cent?

So my guess is acid.
