The crappiest one was rattling around in a hard plastic half dollar case for a decade or so.

Plenty of fakes have been made. Some from real nickels -- changing a 1910 into a 1913 by working the metal, or by taking the 3 from a 1903 and putting it on a 1912. Other fakes were cast or whatever.

So in theory, if you found a legit 1913 V nickel, we could compare it to one of the real nickels. These were all made by the same die within minutes of each other. Yours should match EXACTLY -- down to the location of denticles. The "3" on you nickel is spaced wrong. You can find nice photos of the real nickels on the wikipedia article and you can do a comparison.

Your nickel is weird because it is heavily corroded, but not worn (LIBERTY is entirely visible). I suspect it is made of some other alloy altogether.

This entire thread has me confused.

New member shows up claiming a million dollar coin .. and best they can do is poor photos and an old quote from some auction bulletin?

Show us a clear photo of the obverse and reverse ... then we can offer real opinions.

No one should knock a quote from another site.

The bottom line is that even if your coin looked great, it is possibly imfizzical for you to have a 13V, because they're all accounted for.

I also doubt you have a legit 1913 Liberty V nickel especially one being found after all this time. All of the five made were proofs and according to PCGS:

Pos Grade Pedigree and History
1 PR66 PCGS grade Green-Eliasberg
2 PR64 PCGS grade Green-Olsen-Farouk-Hydeman-Hawn
3 PR63 PCGS Estimated grade Green-Bolt-Reynolds-Walton family
4 PR62 PCGS Estimated grade Green-Boyd-Farouk-Norweb-Smithsonian
5 PR55 PCGS Estimated grade Green-McDermott-BeBee-ANA

What other coins were in this lot of coins you obtained?

I hope not a 1964 Peace dollar.

I like my FAKE a lot better, I can call it a large date variety since that is just about all that looks funky about it. No copy or replica on it.

I don't get it either. This is the biggest fattest fake ever. Saying that a dealer told you "he wasn't sure if it was real or not"...no dealer would ever even consider the possibility it was real. All we need now is for the coin to be offered for sale at the meager price of $2000.

I hate to say it, but I'm going to call shenanigans on the OP possibly being a troll. Not even a single post on any other thread ever. Apologies ahead of time if I am wrong. Wasn't there just a thread a little while ago discussing how some fakers could be posting their fake coins on these boards just to see what might fly and what wouldn't and how to improve their pieces.

Only the Chinese fakers might actually think a 1913 V nickel is gonna fool somebody.

We don't think that you are dumb, but if the truth shows through, why doubt it?

Only 5 were made and we have pictures of all 5. No way yours is real

Just accept it man.

justme6333, I recommend that you should have it looked at, but there is an extremely high chance that it is fake, and we don't really have a choice to call that either fake or replica because documented facts from the mint, government, etc have been put out proving the total mintage. But if yours truly is a genuine 1913 V nickel, I give you my gratitude and sincere apologies for calling it fake/ replica.

I would just put it away, I agree with the rest that its not real. That doesn't mean you can never get lucky, its just almost impossible to get THAT lucky. I found a 3 legged nickel once (around $800 value)
