Well the book gives a CV of $10 to $12 for an uncirculated 1979 or 1980 double bar.

So my estimation is that an average circulated one would go for about $3 to $4 on ebay.

mmm he has it for $12 so I will definitely give it a miss, thanks. wed, is town day for me so I'm checking the library to see if they have a newer book I can borrow. got my eye on a $29.95 mcdonald 2012 book, but it doesn't fit into the budget for a few more weeks.

Would you believe I listed half a dozen aUNC-UNC round 50c with 2 x double bar ones in the lot tonight on another forum and didn't notice the double bar ones till I had. Its the same die from 1966 that was used again in 79 and 80 apparently. I doubt they will pay more than spot price for them if anyone is after a bargain. I have been hunting for a standard double bar for months and have not found a single one yet. and never imagined I would have a round one, so never checked.. silly me,,

The 1979 and 1980 50c double bar are not worth much in average circulated condition. Hardly a premium at all, maybe $1-$1.50. If they are in better than average condition it's a different matter but like others have said around the $10 mark (catalogue value) for an uncirculated coin. They are not difficult to find, although 1979 and harder than 1980. I have heaps!

The 1966 and 1993 double bar are much harder to find (I'm sure others have found more dates).

Hi Erkle,
I have plenty of good 1979 and 1980 double bars in good condition if you want some.

Same Erkle, if I ever see any double bar 50c, I'm happy to post one to you.

The round double bar ones are on silverstackers and $11 each so far. I guess they mostly only look for the silver content even though they cant melt them legally. I could not care if they where made out of silly putty myself. They are rare and historically important Australian coins to me.
