I'm not sure what I am looking at but it appears to be a cracked safe. I am not a fan of large gun safes for storing gold & silver. The reasons are simple they are large and say something important lives here. The second is the amount of time needed for a thief to get into one is around 5 mins. Here is a photo of one defeated in less than 6 mins with nothing more than a sledge hammer and axe.

ANY safe can be defeated with the right tools and enough determination. The purpose of a safe is not to stop criminals but to slow them down so that other measures that we have implemented have enough time to do their jobs. Attacking a safe is something that works best when the safe can be gotten at with few restrictions. Bolt the safe securely to a concrete slab in an area that is very difficult to swing a heavy duty tool or use a pry-bar and the amount of time required goes up... sometimes WAY up.
Other measures that work well in deterring crime are watchful neighbors who won't hesitate to call the police when they see or hear suspicious activity, noisy dogs, electronic alarms, and the firearm of your choice.
It is also possible to disguise a safe so that it is not at all obvious. I have seen safes that were built around as part of a book case and were not at all obvious. Again, given enough time, a disguised safe will likely be discovered but that does not mean that having and using one is a waste of time. It sure beats putting valuables in your sock drawer and I know people who do just that. :-/

The best safe that I have found goes like this.
1.) No one knows that I have PM's. This is important because no one is going to spend time looking for them and if it is a home invasion they are not looking for it.
2.) I do not have a safe that can be seen. This is important because if friends, neighbors or just thefts see it that means trouble.
3.) Floor safe. It is a plastic body with plenty of space. It is sunken into the concert floor. Pretty simple to install and water tight. Once you clear out the space you place the safe in the hole and fill with cement. You can cover it up with anything like carpet, rugs etc. Really easy to hide/cover. They also make ones that will fit into a wooden floor between the floor joist.
A safe in the open is dangerous and invites thieves. Biggest concern for those that store PM is the home invasion by people who know you have PMs. A gun to your head will make you open the safe and if your lucky you can report it to the police. So the two biggest safety features of storing PM's is not telling even your best friend or a relative you have it. The next is not having a safe that lets people know you have anything worth putting in one.

Yes Mk they are true. That's one reason I don't like to buy with delivery or credit card, wire etc involved. Less that know the better. I'm sure all mailmen or Ups know the return address for the US Mint and other PM dealers. Just less in the know the better.

Yes but only when you're home! And who knows how long we will be able to keep those with the way things are going with American freedoms being taken away almost continually.

That looks like the back of Fred's house where a snow drift has piled up agaist a sliding door. The cable to the bottom left tells me those are colored bulbs in the drift and the beer and wine accessorize the "natural cooler."
So, Fred, where'd you go? ;)
