So I stopped by local coin/bullion/jewelry store today, which is about ten miles from my place, located in a massive growth area known as Turkey creek. On would have to drive the couple of mile run down through Turkey creek, just to understand how many restaurants and businesses that are located in this relatively new area. We are talking like 500 restaurants in a very short 5 mile stretch, hard to comprehend all the money that exchanges hands there, if you again have never seen it. Huge theater known as the Pinnacle and the Super Target and Wal-mart, is kind of the heart that started it all.... Anyhooo, I have formed a solid relationship with the fellow who runs this store, which appears to be family owned an ran by many of the family members. So they are hiring 9-6 part time on Mon an Tues, and 9 to 5 on Sats. I am available at those times, and have been wanting a nice part time job doing something I like, and ten bucks an hour for the average 5 guest they get per day on average, well that is a pretty easy money, boring perhaps. But, a good way for me to advance my knowledge on coins an bullion from the inside, and I will be able to convert a good portion of my paycheck back into there silver. Win win for them and I as I figure.... Not gonna quit my bar-tending job, but may phase in to full time at the coin shop as we talked about if I do indeed get hired and like it, as my poor old back can't take too many years of double restaurant life. Playing as a house league ice hockey goalie for 17 years, has already left its mark on my body, lol..... Just thought I would see if you guys thought that would be a good idea, as if I do get hired, I will have a lot on my plate with 2 part time jobs and the ebay thing. But, should be more capital for larger silver investments, bought from the inside, as deals should could easier as an employ one would hope anyway....

do it! it seems like collecting silver/gold has become quite a hobby for you. Having the chance to get to know the inner workings of a dealer will only come as a plus I think. We're young, no better time to work our butts of than now.

I did not take into account my girl friends only days off are Monday and Tues, and if I get another job working till 6. Not getting home till 6:30 on her days off, well it is not gonna go over well. And I am not gonna create a rift over a part time job. Perhaps I can put a resume together, go talk to him, an say I am only good from Wed through Sat. That does not fit their needs, so probably will not got hired, but just is what it is unfortunately....

Sounds like a great idea to me, Hawk, if you can get it to work out with your schedule.

GO FOR IT!
The education you get would make it worth working there even if you did not get paid at all.

I've had to put things off for my girlfriend (now my wife) so I feel you. I got hired to work in Afghanistan doing private military contracting for well over 100 g's a year and turned it down to be with her. Best decision I ever made 'cause now we got two beautiful daughters. I'm sure you'll make the right decision, too.
I do like Icanseeyous idea of getting paid in silver dollars, except, of course, for minimum wage laws. Wouldn't work out too well I'm sure. Good luck though and keep us posted!
Keep stackin'.

I dunno, Hawk... It kinda sounds like an alcoholic getting a job at a liquor store. Next thing you know, you'll be living on the streets with nothing to keep you company except for a few hundred pounds of silver you push around in a grocery cart...

Siverhawk74, You and your girlfriend must be young. My wife would be pleased as punch if I was busy on her days off. I'd take the job, there will be plenty of time for her, and hopefully she'll understand.

I am young at 37, and my girl friend is just 23, lol....
Good news is, the store manager at the store called me back today, and I explained to him that I was sorry that I had not gotten back to him sooner, and explained my schedule situation. He said that he understood, and liked my enthusiasm for bullion an coins, and thought it would be good for both party's, as most employee interviews have no clue about the product itself it appears. They sell jewelry as well, and I am clueless on that subject, so another good learning experience. So he said I could start out working Friday and Saturdays, and here soon perhaps even Thursday even. I said I could fill in on Wed days as well if needed....
I am looking forward to it, should be a great learning experience, and like Mmerlinn said more or less, the pay will just be a bonus.....

Not only do you get to learn a cool business from the ground up but you can probably swing some sort of employee discount on a few silver goodies from time to time. A few years from now, you might even have your own silver and gold business. That would be pretty darned cool.

That is accurate Ed, lol! Pretty bad when I mention a mid 80's sitcom like Greatest American hero or Bosom Buddies, and she is clueless. Those two theme songs play all the time where I work, and ever time I hear them I mention how much I like those shows growing up.... "Believe it or not I am walkin on air, never thought I could be so free! Flyin away on a wing prayer, who could it be, believe it or not its just me!" And my girl friend born in 1988 is like "Huh, what the heck is that" Rof !

Would that be the Turkey Creek located on the west side of Knoxville, TN?
Congrats on the new job, it will give you an interesting look at the inner workings of the business. The downside is once you know what a dealer pays you may never be able to buy retail again.
