I just bought this from ebay, the front of the coin along the rim the shinny silver looks like it is chipping away. I weighed it and it looks like the right weight, but I'm really concerned about the pretty silver color getting chipped away to a dull gray underneath. Is it real? Has anyone seen this before? Thanks

can you get a picture where we can see what the date looks like? Something looks weird to me but it could be the picture causing this. Also please take a few pictures of the areas that first caused you to be concerned, because this may be normal also. 1921 has a different look than other Morgans so that may be what is throwing me off also but better pictures without the glare on the coin would help allot. I am not asking you to take it out of the 2x2 because if you are thinking about sending it back it needs to stay the way they sent it. The dull color you are seeing may be just toning unless the silver is actually chipping away from the coin, then we will have a problem. Better pictures are needed of those areas to be sure what is going on

The dark area around the rim is just toning. I see a normal slider Morgan(AU/MS) so there should not be anything to be concerned about.

I am not seeing anything that would lead me to believe it is a fake. It looks like just some toning around the rim, nothing unusual. Don't try to remove the toning because cleaning it would in all likelihood make the coin look much worse. You should try to store the coin in a dry location with stable temperatures and that should help to keep the progression of the toning at a minimum. You have purchase a nice and what looks to be an accurately graded coin.

Thanks for the help, if anyone else reads this and would like to add their Two Cents, that would be great. When I look straight on the coin the lines are very sharp, but when I turn and look at an angle, the lines (between the shinny silver and dull silver) mesh together. I paid 30 bucks for the coin, did I pay too much considering the toning? thanks

Coin appears normal. Being a very very common date, 1921, there is less incentive for individuals to make counterfeits. Looks fine to me...

Where? I'd love to know!
Also, I'm interested in buying foreign silver coins by the ounce. Any ideas where I could spend a few hundred bucks to pick up some? Thanks!

The coin is almost certainly authentic but the toning is unattractive and might indicate there is some corrosion going on. The 1921 is extremely common and it should be very easy to find a nicer-looking example for a similar price. If I were you I'd return this one and look for one that is more pleasing. My local coin shop has 1921 Morgans in low mint state grade for about $30. With CA sales tax the price would be close to $33 but that would get you a much nicer coin that what you have. You should see if there are any shops in your area. Even better, attend a coin show if possible. Usually purchases at coin shows are tax free and the selection of Morgans is likely to be very good. Oh yeah, welcome!
