I received this in a lot of coins I purchased....is there anything I can do to "help" it out without destroying it?

Now that would be a good candidate to try BadThads verdi-care on it since it has the verdigris. It may also darken the orange surface oxidation and make it a darker Buffalo nickel. Other than that I think you either leave it as it is or try that product.
Not a plug, per say, but anything else would leave you with an obvious cleaned coin.

Take it out and shoot it and put it out of it's misery.
I have never been able to get that color corrosion off a Nickel.
If you ever did it off it would probably be badly pitted anyway.

i had acetone get that rust color off once. But it required rolling a q-tip over the surface. didn't matter much for mine, it was just a dateless one.

Is that a "split tail" I perceive on Mr. Buffalo? I would not do anything more than try a little acetone to get rid of the green gunk. It's still a pretty nice coin...with lotsa "character"...!
