Another discussion topic. Do you ever carry around silver coins in your pocket?
I do. Sometimes two or three silver halves or a silver dollar or two. I love the sound and sometimes take them out to show others. Surprised there are so many people who don't think the coins are real. Or they think today's circulating coins still have silver in them.
Anyway, carry around silver coins? If so, what country and denomination?

I also like silver coins a lot -especially the sound and feeling of large ones-; much more than any other metal. I used to carry a Kennedy silver half and a British silver florin, but more than anything it was because some idiot polished them and I was trying to take that fake shinny look from them. :)

What's not to like, other than their absence from normal pocket change? Silver is Real Money; all the others are just tokens.

I've got a very well worn Walking Liberty half that I carry. When I put it in my pocket, my intention was for it to attract other silver coins. It doesn't seem to do that as well as I'd hoped.

What reactions do you receive when you show other people your coins? I get a lot of confused looks.

tried that once or twice but it quickly turned into... "hey where'd it go?"
Then for a while I kept a silver dime tucked in my wallet, but that was more because I found it in change once and needed a "good" place to keep it safe.

I carry copper! One of those old magic trick pennies that has Lincoln on one side, the Indian head on the other!
Wanna know why I carry it? Cause I'm a winner!
Reminds me of an old man that my Grandad use to talk about. He always carried around a Saint-Gaudens double eagle in his pocket. He said it was worn fairly smooth and the old man really loved showing it to the kids to get a reaction.

I carry an 1878 Morgan silver dollar in an AirTite case, just because I like the "heft" of real money in my pocket.

How many airtites do you go through in a year after you replace them when they get all scratched up? =)

I had a silver dime I'd carry on me to teach other people how to identify them from clad ones. I saw someone give away one in change at a gas station once and it was too painful to watch, so I decided to carry one as a teaching tool for those who didn't know about silver coins.

I often carry a 1921 Morgan in my pocket, I like the weight of a real coin. Often I get asked about it when I pull out a handful of change to pay some where.

My lucky 1989 ASE pocket piece goes everywhere I do. Why is it lucky? Because I bought it for $1 from a 7-11 cashier in 1993. Yes, it was this scratched and beat-up when I got it! (I keep it in a flip)

I'm really glad someone started a topic on this. I started carrying a 1897S dollar. But then it started to lose some toning that I liked so I stopped carrying it to preserve it the way I wanted. I've carried various dollars to adjust the toning pattern or to naturally "clean" them to a degree. I bought a 1890 CC dollar that looked like it had a little PVC damage on the high spots so I've been carrying that around. It looks a lot better now. Currently I've been toting around Aussie and New Zealand coins since I'm down in New Zealand for a year. Carried a $5 half eagle for a little while.
