I think this coin looks like it has been clean, just looks a little bright. Can I get some opinions as to wether or not this coin has been cleaned?

It has a cleaned appearance to me, but many of these have been cleaned in the past. I see it in the toning. I don't believe it was necessarily improperly cleaned. It looks like there is still some luster remaining also, so it couldn't have been cleaned too harshly.

Thanks Susan, I would imagine that even a light cleaning does take away some value. How much should someone take into consideration as far as value. Or is it just what an individual thinks of a coin. I personally really like it, it does still have some luster left like you said. I would like a bust half in this condition just cannot pay the price of one in a ngc or pcgs holder. Can you give a opinion of grade from these pics? EF 40-45 maybe

its hard to tell, it looks like it may have been cleaned but if so it was cleaned some time ago and already started to retone over the cleaning. It is very hard to find a Bust Half that hasn't been cleaned at some point in its life

I believe you've got it just about right, newdavid - a nice EF Bustie that's a little too bright for the wear. Having said that, I can easily imagine a circumstance which would end up with an original coin like this one, if it circulated heavily for a year or so and then went permanently into a collection/hoard.

If the grading job were mine, though, it'd be EF45 (lightly) Cleaned. Original Busties just don't tone like that.
