After reading some posts about star notes, I researched just enough to find out what they are and then started looking for them. A co-worker of mine had one today, for which I traded him a normal old dollar.

It's a series 2001 and has been folded and refolded and creased within an inch of its tiny little life.

I don't plan to collect them particuarly, although I'll probably keep any I happen to come across.

Do people collect them? Should I be on the lookout for pristine (let's say AU) examples that I can sell for big bucks? Or is it just a curiosity?

Thanks for listening.

Jan

Nuts. I hadn't even thought of them until these star note topics started popping up. While I don't see much cash as a fulltime RVer (mostly credit cards), I'll be checking the bills as they pass through my fingers on Bingo nights - I'm already checking the coins. Lots of Canadian coinage down here in Arizona for some reason.

Janknez,
I hate to burst your bubble but any circulated one dollar star note from 1999, 2001, and 2003 is not going to be worth much. But don't worry. I keep them too. I have probably over $200 in one dollar circulated star notes. It's going to take some time (10-20 years) before you will be able to sell them for a profit.

For example. You can go onto ebay and buy 100 CRISP UNCIRCULATED SEQUENTIAL star notes for $150-$200. So that one dollar you just saved from circulation with all the folds will never compair to the 100 sequential choice uncirculated notes. And right now those brand new star notes arnt even worth $2 for just one. If you find a nice looking circulated star note, by all means, keep it. But if they are really really worn, tears, writing, just pass on them. They wont be worth really anything. BUT, they are fun to look for and good to keep for a rainy day. I keep all star notes I find, though, I know they aren't worth much.
Good things,
Ty

Thanks, Ty. I am not disappointed -- that's what I figured.

But, I think they're cool and will save a few nice examples (if I come across any) for my heirs to deal with. I have all sorts of worthless numismatic curiosities I've saved for no good reason; this will just be one more.

I save any star note I find. I do work at a bank though and have access to look threw a lot of bills to find them. I get one or 2 a day at least. I always love finding 100$ star notes or 50$ star notes.
