Tomorrow I leave for my long awaited 3 week vacation in the pacific island road tripping from canberra to brissy then onto a cruise ship for 2 weeks:)

So I must ask, anything to look out for? coin wise?

Cheers and see you in three weeks!

Also, in march the RAM has the special exibition which I most certainly be going, and during that week, the counterstamp C wheat dollar is available with a special privy mark so to speak to mark the occasion.

They can only be minted in the week of 2 - 9 march so If people would like me to get a lot, please let me know! last time I sent them off it came to less than $5 for the coin and postage anywhere. not too sure if these special mintages will be more expensive but they will certainly be scarce unless someone goes crazy with the self stamp.

Joshtammi,
which ship are you on?
My kids are leaving from Brisbane on a cruise next week.
Might be the same cruise. They are on the Sun Pricess.

I did a similar cruise with my wife, about 6 months ago.
Most of those island countries, seem to like U.S or Aus dollars and finding coins was difficult in the tourist areas. I actually hit my tour guide up for the odd change on her purse.

wow, yep thats it:) Small world? Sun princess going to Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu!

Don't worry Ausjack, I'm only in Uni myself so I don't think I'm going to be a good supervisor, regardless if I am in the ADF! I may just be the youngest coin collector on this forum:)

It's never too young to start collecting.
I gave all my grandkids a big bag of mixed foregn coins an a loupe at Christmas.
All the other Toys they got are now either broken or forgotten about.
But they all still have their coins, Heck they thought they were millionares when I gave em to them

My Son is 19 and my Daughter is 23.
So no supervisor required.
Small world for sure.

I told my Daughter you were at Uni and she said, "oooh"!
Then I said you were in the ADF and she said,"oooh"!
Then I said you were a pilot and she said,"oooooh"!
Then I said you were 18 and she said'"too young"! LOL

Are you travelling with anyone?

They will be on a coin collecting mission for me.

Yes, I am traveling with my Girlfriend, we have been looking forward to it for ages, and now I'm ust about to start driving so take care guys:)

When I went on a cruise such a very long time ago some of the smaller pacific islands traded Aussie money. They knew the common designs but didn't like any new commemoratives as they didn't know that they were real.
