I'm wondering if Die Deterioration could cause this. Is the other letters rounded or sharp?

1). It looks as if the lettering on the die has struck a thickened rim. (minor flan error), but the lettering on the rim has given it far more interest.

2). The dent on the rim between 'WE and 'TRUST' is post mint damage.

"tanks"? the ones that shoots bullets or the ones you fill with water?

Could this be from a result of Machine Doubling?

Die deterioration, very common on late 80's cents.

If the in on the rim is recessed as it looks to be than it is Die Deterioration.

It's most likely Die Deterioration, but rather quite peculiar looking, especially if it's a solid copper-alloy cent. What's the date? Are the extra letters incuse?

mikediamond,

here are more pics. I've included the obverse as well as the reverse. take a look and you will notice on the reverse that the same can be seen on 'UNI' in 'UNITED'.

let me know what you think.

also I question the motto as to being extra wide.

tanks,
joe

I see no doubling on the reverse and you still haven't told me if the extra letters on the obverse are incuse.

hi all,
I too had to lookup what incused ment, found proper info on another site. so, I went back to my coin and pulled a string through the area between the rim and letters in "IN" and proved that the extra letters are indeed incused both on the obverse and reverse.

I have no clue how a string would have resolved the issue, but if your letters are incuse, then it's almost certainly a case of Die Deterioration.
