I bought an 1852 large cent just before Thanksgiving and then got busy with the holiday season and didn't take it out.

The scans don't show the remaining luster and the color is not close to its true color at all.
So I also tried my new USB microscope, which is better but makes it appear a little too red.

You can use a quick&easy image editing program like Irfanview to adjust the color and appearance back to normal. My shots never come out looking exactly like the coin until I fiddle with them.

I actually think the first set of pictures are very nice and 'natural' looking.

Excellent idea! I did just that. I think these are a bit better.

I'm betting the images still aren't doing this coin justice. I bet in hand it is a really nice coin.

Again, I do think that the 'red' pictures look a little too red/pink...it looks unnatural.
