Hello, I have recently started collection Paper currency and my uncle gave me this note for christmas. I'm haveing problems telling which variety it is. Its either the blue variety or the green variety. I would also like to know why there is 2 varieties of colors for these notes. Did they run out of ink and use what was available? Anyways, I dont think my uncle intentionally gave me a super valuable note, but hes old (Not trying to be mean) and his eyesight isn't as good as it used to be. Plus its a very dirty note. I had to unfold it and straighten it out. He said he just put it in a bag with a bunch of other low grade notes when he got it. He got it in a bulk purchase he made years ago. So its been sitting in the storage for a while. Any help and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I see there has been allot of viewing going on in this thread but no responses. I am going to be the first one tom tell you that we do have some members that do know these type of notes but I am not one of them so even though I am posting I am going to be of no help. The members that do know these type of notes may be able to tell you from these photographs but I do not even know what the differences are (what is supposed to be blue or green). There is probably only a few people that will be able to answer your question but once they see this thread and if they can help they will. I know some people (especially new members) see all the views and think they are being ignored when they do not see anyone posting anything and they start to get discouraged, that is why I went ahead and posted these even though I am not able to really help you in any way answer your question. We also have some very knowledgeable collectors on the other side of the world so when you are sleeping they will be on the forum answering questions on the forum.

Thank you Bryan for posting in my thread. I'm very new to old paper money. This is the only confederate note that I have. So of course when I got it, I searched the web for any and all information openly available for it. The only things I can find are items for sale. Thats when I came accross the Blue One being for sale. I've seen 4 of them. The cheaper one of these is the Green one. I've seen the green ones selling from 15-30 dollars depending on grade. But the Blue one is going from 300 to almost 600 dollars in rough shape. So being that I'm so new to paper money and have limited resources on it, I thought I would just post it up to see what the pro's have to say about it. Of all the Blue Ones I've seen for sale, I have the earliest serial number. I've included a picture of a Green One (top note) and a Blue One (bottom) for comparison so that the other onlookers can see why I'm haveing such a problem figureing out what I got.....Thank you for posting.
I'm not in a rush to attribute it, Its just one of those things thats been on my mind for about 2 weeks now since I got it. Its kind of exciting. If its blue I'm definetely getting a Green One so that I have both varieties. Thanks for your time. Also, I can blow up the picture on my comp and I may try to blow up the word One so it can be seen more clearly on the forums. The pictures posted on here right now will distort if you save them to your comp and try to zoom in on them. Ill try to set it up.

I figured it out. This should be easier to see now. Sorry for so many pictures. Both of these pictures are my note. The top pic is the original scan. The bottom pic is the one I adjusted the temperature and saturation to make it look like the ones for sale online. Hope this helps. Again sorry for so many pics.

Im leaning on blue but thats my uneducated assumption.

The blue or green they are referring to is the color of the word ONE that is in the background of the middle bottom. And the photo above my posting looks blue.

I see the two photos in a book called "Southern States Currency". There are 6 varieties of that note.

The publisher is Whitman and it says The official Red Book on the cover. They have a series of Red Book, books. I really like them and find them very useful for identifying.

It is really hard to attribute your note, with so many photos floating around. Pick one that looks most accurate.
