Hi there, I have inherited some coins left by my father and I thought I might as well check if they are worth anything before putting them back in a box. Idon't know the first thing about coin valuration rarity etc so I saw this website and thought I would make a quick post. I have 2 coins one from 1832 5 lire with maria luigia on the front. The other is from 1812 with napoleone on the front and it is also a 5 lire coin. Is there any way to check these are copies, whether they are rare etc Thanks very much guys Your help is appreciated

Wow thanks for that quick info
SO the Napoleone coin is a fake but the coin from parma might be worth something.
Any idea where I can possibly get this checked by a coin specialist in london? Or is this something I can send to a website to sell?

Hello, Alex, and welcome to the forum. To me, they also appear to be reproductions, in particular I don't like the portraits, the noodly hair on Bonaparte is not the 1800's style. But you need to get as many opinions as you can to make sure whether they are authentic or not.
One of the basic tests is weighing coins. Both coins should weigh 25 grams, any sizable discrepancy is the "death sentence". Also check with the a magnet, many modern counterfeits are magnetic. Good luck!

And that isn't really helping.

We must all be getting old... it's now to the point where the Chinese fakes are getting passed on to the next generation.
