HI

After browsing this site for a few weeks I finally decided to join.

I have some RCM Specimen sets, I like the finish of these and the loon dollars. After reading on hear about the damage PVC does I decided to take the piece of protective plastic off of my sets, and there is some damage to the plastic its sort of foggy. This is frustrating because I left the plastic on in order to keep them in the best condition possible. is there away to remove the "fogging"? is this an effect of PVC in the protective plastic?

Thanks for any help and all the information I have already obtained from this site

What year is the set you are having problems with? I saw someone else who cleaned his set plastic on the outside with one of those headlight restoration compounds, the danger is always that the chemistry might affect the coins.

All plastics haze to one degree or another over time and plastics used for coins often lack stabilizers and things we take for granted in plastics used for other products.

If the haze you are taking about is on the coin then you can clean it off with acetone. I did have this on my Loons that I took out of the PVC holders.

Well you can remove the plastic sheets from coins, buff the plastic with the headlight stuff from Canadian Tire and clean it, dry it for a couple days before returning them to their place. It's one large plastic sheet so should be easy to do.

Really? I'm willing to try it. I'm laughing a bit but if it works why not
