So I came across 2 Calgary Olympic coins the other day. The silver ones in the velvet box. Cross county skiing and freestyle skiing if that makes a difference. Both dated 1986 for the 1988 Olympics. I've tried searching on ebay and cant find a single coin which makes me wonder... either the rareish and worth something or there just that undesirable and no one wants em.

Either way they got an oz of silver in em so I'm happy, but if theres some sort of collectors value here it would be nice to know. Picked em up for spot price so....I think I've already done alright on em.

A few sell here and there but there wasn't all that much interest in them. I generally melt them.

Do they have edge lettering?Examples without the edge lettering are quite valuable, otherwise they are basically bullion value items.

Yes, they have edge lettering unfortunatly.
I guess I was right then in only paying spot. Had no idea what they were worth and I didnt wanna risk overpaying.

Accually went into the pawn shop to see what they had and caught this guy in line befor he had a chance to get to the counter. Offered em spot and he took it. If he didnt take it, I'm courious what they would have offered him.

The mintage on these coins were so high that they don't fetch much more than the value of silver at the time of sale, a bit more if in a complete set, but not so much. Some dealers allocate these as basically scrap silver on par with damaged 80% Canadian coins or 90% American ones.
I like them though, got a very 70s-80s feel. Will one day try to complete the set.
