I have two coins that I won in Heritage auctions. A 1804 Half Cent and a 1814 Large Cent. Both are slabbed by ANACS. The holders are different. One has a blue background and seems bulkier and the other has a white background. Can these different cases be used to roughly date the grading? If not is there any way to determine the date of the grading? I think one of the coins is under graded based on common standards today. Thanks.

the clear view holders (blue) are the newest holders, the smaller white holders are the older type holders ANACS used to use and in my opinion they should have stuck with

Well that fits my theory as the Half Cent is in the White Holder and seems under graded as a F-12 and it is a VF, problem free. Do you know when they switched holders?

okie,
They switched holders less than a year ago. They still use the smaller, white holder for problem coins,as scratched, tooled, cleaned etc. I removed a number of coins from the old holders and resubmitted them to ANACS.They downgraded most of them.So you might want to rethink submitting them again.Grading from all the top grading companies is very tight right now.

Thanks TLS. I'll leave well enough alone or just saw it out eventually for a 7070. Appreciate the good advice.

If you post pictures of both I can tell you approximitely when they were slabbed. Or at least give you a time range.

Conder101 is the expert on TPGs and their slabs, so give him some pics to work with

Coins are in my bank box and it will be a while before I will have time to photograph them. Thanks.
