Well it seems to be a good buy. Looks like silver.

Oh, yeah it is thanks...(-:

The melt is around $7.50.

At VF it's around $45, but this looks F12-15, so I don't know if it's a good buy.

I think it's probably about it's money. I like Swiss coins and hang on to any nice examples I get. However, because their coins have had little variety over the past 150 odd years - condition is really the thing that gets the collectors excited. That said - any 19th century silver is worth considering.

It's first year for its type, which may account for the value given in Krause.
Values tend to be higher than Krause for the domestic collector market too.
No doubt, a coin shop in Swtizerland would charge more than $12.

I think it's an OK buy.

Part of the decision is: Why did you buy it?

If it's part of your world silver coin collection, or old silver coin collection, or swiss type set, or similar, then you did great.

If your goal was to buy a cheap silver coin for melt and flip it to a silver accumulator that doesn't care about numismatics, you could've done better.

I like it.

I'm with wheatie on this one. For me it would be about the acquistion goal. if I needed it for my collection, than I would be very happy with that price.

I'm just interested in it that it's a great old piece, one of my only first year designs, and I've got about 10 Swiss coins and would look great with them. I didn't buy it cause it's silver, it's a really interesting piece. I'm OK with it being within it's buy price. Thanks a lot, guys!

Nice coin, in my opinion you got your self a great deal.
Even in Serbian market this coin can reach 10-15 Euro retail, I assume that in USA it can reach even more than that.
Its amazing how swiss use that same design for their coins today.
