Hi Roger, not sure what to make of this but I do not think it is PMD. It looks like it is just plain twisted columns. I will try to get some better pictures.

Hi DrDon, I am not sure what to make of this coin. The coin is not in the best condition but the columns look like they were raised up and twisted. I just do not know what to think of this one. I wish I new more about all this. Thanks for the reply.

It is damaged. You can see the wear through the plating on the cornice and the scratches on the field left of the area of 1st. column.

Hi John1 , I put a couple of more pictures on for you to look at. Sorry they are not the best pictures. The coin has damage. I think I have been looking at too many pennies lately. This weekend I went through $100.00 worth. maybe I am looking at them too fast and also seeing things that I just wish were there. Any way thank you and everyone else for putting up with all my questions and pictures.

wz1f: I thought that when I found Lincoln making faces at me once:

The unusual thing about this coin was that when you rotated the image, the facial expression went away. Only seen with the light at 12:00. I took a break for a while from searching. I guess I realized I was looking too close. LOL

Thanks Coop. I think I will just take a couple of hours off from searching. I am disabled so this is about my only hobby right now. I love amateur radio as well, but this is my new hobby. I appreciated your help.

I wouldnt say you have to take some time off. what I would do is if you find some stuff like this put it to the side let it sit there for a week or 2 then look at it again. if it still looks like something then tell us all about it. normally when I do that I realize I was just seeing things.

Maybe take some time to organize what you have found? Search for variety numbers. Organize your collection. Intoduce yourself to your family. LOL

Hi Coop, thats a good one. I dont know if my wife remembers me right now. I've been in this room all week looking through the scope for errors. I really am enjoying this and hate to put the loupe down at all. Take care. Lee

You guys are killing me with the little jokes!

All joking aside though, IMHO the coin appears to have been laying reverse down on a metal wire or other grate and was stepped on just at the right position to not really break the surface finish. This probably happened early in it's life and after that, the environment in which it laid, caused the damaged and undamaged areas to tone fairly evenly.
