I'd like to get Mike Diamond's opinion on this coin. The zinc areas are bright and show no sign of corrosion. To my eyes, the zinc also shows struck surfaces. Here is a pic:

Thanks!

This is a genuine example of a cent struck on a partly plated planchet.

I certainly wouldn't argue with Mike, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a coin would get plated in different amounts on opposite sides and in that crescent shape. If I accept the obstruction explanation (like putting rubber cement on steel you don't want sandblasted), that would mean exposure of different parts at the same time.

We may never know the precise cause, but evidently it was struck that way.

Pretty cool find. Did you find it searching rolls? I've never seen one like that. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks--yes, I found it while searching rolls.
At first, I considered it damaged, until I noticed the cartwheel on the zinc, then had the error confirmed here.

The eye appeal on this coin alone would make me want to shell out 40bucks on it! I found a 100% missing clad 1983 but she looks NOWHERE as good as this one does! Congratulations on your find!
