Just picked this up. Please grade and offer opinion on FS designation.

It's not just a 1940 .... it's a 1940 D which makes it much better a find!
The steps had just been reworked on the dies in late 1939 and it is not unusual to find this much detail on any of the 1940 P D or S nickels. At one time it was a full step nickel, but I don't think it would get the FS designation as such anymore since there is that lightly smooshed area above the T in Monticello that interrupts the steps and a few light hits. It is at least AU 55 maybe 58 but has great eye appeal. That's a keeper in my book. I would have a hard time parting with it. Great find!

It has great eye appeal in hand! Its a keeper to me!

I would like to know if you feel this coin warrants a $7.00 value?

Nice coin, not a FS, too many nicks and smooshes, but certainly a keeper with a grade of AU58 or so.

Depends on if you filing an insurance claim, buying or selling

Seriously, it seems a bit high for me but I am not a dealer and have not bought or sold cherry picked nickels except for proofs in quite a while.

Numismedia puts a value of $2.04 on it in AU58 and $5.18 in MS63.
Like I said, the full steps of 1940 nickels is pretty much a common situation and even in full steps, (which yours is most likely not) MS64 is only $16.80 which yours is not either from what your picture shows.
If it had been rescued a few handling's earlier, I think it would have probably been worth the MS64 level. Now, if you can squeeze $5.00 out of it you are lucky.
Now, coins are subjective to personal taste. Somebody may fall in love with it and pay whatever you ask.
Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder in the end. Your nickel does have something going for it in my opinion.
