I have been buying 1 Proof ASE per year from the mint. I really have not looked into dealers for these, should I be? Just want to make sure I am not over paying. Thanks!

I buy from the mint and I don't mind the small premium.

Any dealer had to buy the proof from the mint also, and unlike bullion coins, dealers get no discount from the mint on proofs. Buying from the mint is the cheapest way to go.

I would buy from a dealer personally. If it is a bit more then the mint I would not mind because I would be supporting a local good dealer.

Everyone (including the dealers) has to get their ASE proofs from the same place - the US Mint. Unlike bullion ASE's, the only way the mint sells ASE proofs is directly to the public.

If you buy from the mint, you know you are paying the lowest price. The dealers have plenty of other coins to make money on, no need to pay more than mint price for a proof ASE.

Exactly Ron! Why risk the coin being cherry picked if you don't have to.

I have never found a dealer price lower than the US Mint price for the lastest ASE issue, but you have to pay a $4.95 S&H charge when getting it from the mint. This years proof issue was only available from the Mint from early July until about mid-November when it sold out. Now the dealer price is well above the original mint issue price.
