Yeah,i don't know much about these square coin but I think it would be a modern reproduction,it looks to have been handled a lot. Australian Coin will no doubt come back if he finds anything. I could'nt find it in Macca's Guide.

Its a 2006 British reproduction, there were 700-750 proof types made but this is an Uncirculated type so I'm guessing more I think I saw somewhere you can but them for like $22 brand new, they even made a set of 3 with coper, nickel and bronze.
p.s I'm a girl

The government did experiment with trial square coins in 1920 but none of the patterns match yours. They are very rare and the nost common catalogues at $95,000 in my 2011 maccas guide. This one is clearly a reproduction but I as a novelty is fairly cool. I would consider it for $1 and $5 postage just for fun.

It is a modern reproduction, or just made it for fun. 1966 is the year Australia went into decimal coinage from pre-deciaml , which means from penny to cent. In 1920, 5 CENTS COIN, NO!!! WAY!!! Unless there was time travel. But it is looks nice, it even got Kookaburra.

Thats definitely a fake - Australia did have square pattern coins, but they were for pennys. Also, as ADMISLSE pointed out, decimalisation occured in 1966.
