I am trying to finish off my decimal sets and have came up against the dreaded "only issued in mit sets" wall. If you want to finish these sets off you will need coins from the folowing mint sets. 1985,86,87,88,89,90,91,92,95 and 1996. This is the breakdown 1 cent 86,91 2 cent 86,87,90,91 5 cent 85,86 10 cent 86,87,95,96 20 cent 86,87,88,89,90,91 50 cent 86,87,90,92 $1 87,89,90,91 $2 91 What a pain in the arse If these dates an denominations were not needed for circulation they should of just not made any

Dansco shouldnt put spaces for these years in their albums. It is annoying. I think because they didnt get issued for circulation they dont belong in an album. It encourages people to break down their mint sets as well. I feel for you trout its very frustrating. I wouldnt bother filling them, I know it might look a little crap but ah well. Do you really feel the need?

Quote: Do you really feel the need? Yeah I hate the gaps or blank holes in albums. I can live with the missing 1930 penny and the 1923 1/2 penny But all the rest are fillable eventually. Another anoying thing with the Dansco's is they dont have spots for the diferant mintmarks in the decimal albums like in the pre decimal albums. Yet another WHINGE they have spots for the diferant obverses as well. In the decimals the date IS on the obverse, Dozey buggers

I have no idea why they only made mint sets in these years instead of just choosing not to mint at all. I suppose that they make a mint set every year an it would look odd in then set if there was missing coins that they really did not need to keep up with the circulation coinage. I think that they should ban the idea of selling mint sets every year and just stick to their proof silver and gold coins instead of driving collectors insane at a later date

I'll play devil's advocate.
I have decimal sets and all my coins come from mint sets. They are all nice and shiney and I like it that way - even though they are made for circulation.
Taking it to the extreme, I also have a 1966-2012 5c Proof collection, only missing 1973 to complete and am well on my way to having compiled the 10c proof collection from 1966-2012.

I'm jealous of your proof sets Tim. They're more special to the UNC mint sets so I don't think the same rules apply.
I don't think dansco is the way to go for decimals. I prefer to go with 2x2s in folder sleeves. You get all mint marks, die varieties and best of all can see both sides of the coins.

How did you go with the 1983 and 1984 20c?
I can handle a "mint set only" gap much better than I can handle a gap where basically the entire mintage was melted down.

Looks like I'll have to add the 1983,84 sets to my list as well

Proof coins are nice though. I am trying to get the 5c and 10c just now. Should be easier to sell if the time comes rather than unc.
I use 2x2 also, don't own any albums. Don't want to have to be restricted to having to fill the holes that they are telling me to. At least in plastic sheets a full page can have gaps in the years and then when you get that year you can just move them along :-)

I use the Dansco Supreme albums for my proof sets dibby; that way you can see both sides of the coin, and they are stored nicely too!
