To be honest, I can't find any mention of a silver buffalo except for 2001. Anywhere.... Not sure. I looked at his feedback, and if you look at the second to last "negative" he got, someone didn't get their 2001-2006 buffalo set? Plus, the photos are all repro type photos, not real coin shots. Something is strange. I'll wait and see what the experts say when they read this. Maybe we're both missing something.

Looking at this coin, the only thing that's messing is the "In God We Trust" and a $$$ on it, but still since it has USA, the E pub thing, and Liberty I would think the US Mint wouldn't like something like this.

It is just a reproduction coin. There are some other ones on ebay. They make a coin for each year since 2001.

I thought a reproduction coin that looks like a US Coin had to say like "copy" on it or something to that matter.

I thought so also. At least in the description of the listing. There is nothing to tell the regular consumer that this is not a mint made item. I know research can be done to find out, but I'm not sure what they are doing is legal. Probably is with the amount of business they do, but I still don't think it's right. I would think the gov would have a problem with them using "commemorative" the way they do with reproduction or copy somewhere in the title. Who exactly is making these at .999 fine anyway?

It would have to state an actual value on the coin with an intent for commercial purposes. Since this one doesn't show that then it is merely a bullion coin which can be produced by anybody. I have bought from Vernon Coin many times and they are very reputable. I am sure they would never intentionally defraud anyone.

They use the word "Commemorative" several times and don't actually call it a Mint Issue Proof. I've bought a few things from Vernon Coin and never had a problem with them so far.

This is a commemorative bullion medal or silver round. Overall, vernoncoin is okay to deal with. I did have a problem with some proof set envelopes that I ordered from him that turned out to be envelopes that he printed on his printer. The fact that these were modern reprints was not stated in the auction. I should point out, though, that he accepted the return.

Other than that, I have no personal experience with this seller.

Learn something new everyday. Like I said, with the amount of items for sale and feedback, I find it hard to beleive that they are doing anything illegal. Just odd is all. I haven't been on ebay actually searching for "coins" for very long, so a lot of this I haven't seen before. Thanks all for the topic and discussion.

This coin was produced by a commemorative coin company meeting the criteria of being 30% larger than the actual nickel. Some were made as a proof of 99% solid silver and others were CLAD. I imagine the unknowing buyer got burnt by purchasing the CLADs thinking they were solid sliver, I purchased the silver for bullion it was reasonably priced at the time.

To me, this is just a plain old silver round. Cheesy to be sure, but not really misleading. OK, maybe it's misleading if you don't know your stuff. But here's something that really makes me nutty:

They come in gold, too. No mention on the coin that it's a copy, because it's not a copy of any US coin. No indication that it's not a real coin. In fact, it gives every indication that it actually is a real coin. I guess you would call it a private fantasy piece, maybe? It's basically "mint your own money," in my opinion. Now if that's OK, why not make your own coins in base metal? Perhaps with a 2007 date. Heck, there's so many different coins coming out who would know what's what? Plenty of people still don't know what a Sac, SBA, or even a Kennedy half is. As I previously mentioned, this coin makes me nutty.
