Hello Can you see this message and give your opinion. http://www.numicanada.com/forum/vie...f=28&t=13872 This is not a Weak Strike from the photos. If "TY" which is a specialist in $ 2 can also give his views would be appreciated, thank you. Two different collars?

Since the pictures are mine, I will copy/paste both varieties of the 2010L 2$ here so you can see the difference: Normal interrupted serration: 16 denticles - smooth -16 denticles - smooth -16 denticles - smooth - 16 denticles - smooth - 16 denticles - smooth. The other one has shorter serrations, and the denticles are a bit thiner: 14 denticles - smooth -14 denticles - smooth -14 denticles - smooth - 14 denticles - smooth - 14 denticles - smooth. Difference between both edges (one smooth-denticles segment): Feel free to share your stats here!

Odd serration. The only explanation is the use of a different collar. Will check my coins and see if I have something similar. I rarely pay much attention to the "third face" of the coin ... so much for a numismatist ...
Thanks for posting sir.
(are you going to NUPHILEX? If so, can you bring this coin?)

Great to have your opinion that fast, t_y.
No, I'm not going to be at Nuphilex. However, if you check a few 2010 toonies, I've no doubt you'll find both varieties.
Note that both can be found in a single mint roll, meaning they were produced together.
What we're looking for now are stats to figure out the approximative mintage for both varieties.

I will get in touch with some roll searchers I know and will post any result I can get.
Meanwhile, I have the results for the 2009 twoonie - matte vs. brilliant finish: almost a tie - 25 boxes across the country - 45% brilliant vs 55% brilliant.
Easy to find both in high grade.

Actually darryldarryl, even if I did the "study" work, someone on Numicanada (username "Bidou") discovered this variety first. @ t_y, thank you for your help with the stats!

Numiscanada is a fantastic site. Home to many very dedicated variety and error hunters. I read posts at least 3 times a week but since it is Francophone, I never post (my grammar is very poor). Last week I was in Boucherville and chatted at length with a few of its members. It is always nice to put a face on an alias.

Very interesting to see something new with $2 coins. Are the 2010's the only coins to check for this? (Opening the vault)

I have 10 of the 2010 toonies of which 1 is the 14 variety. Anyone have a better ratio than I do so far?
1 in 10 ratio

I am confused on this one! Is it a error or is it a new form of a mule that we havent seen before caused by the wrong "Third face" of a coin intended for another type of coin?

Not a mule - the interrupted serration is used only on the twoonie. This is a VARIETY - a different die, intentionally or unintentionally, used in the fabrication of the coin.
I am waiting for numbers before contacting Bill Cross on this one.
