Hi folks - I'm relatively new to "rabid" collecting although I've been interested in coins for my whole life. I love the forum here & the friendly atmosphere & wealth of knowledge. Speaking of which...
What software programs do you guys recommend? I recently purchased Collector's Asst Plus (Carlisle), but it has a couple of annoying idiosyncracies (or maybe I'm just too dumb to properly utilize it).
Thanks, Jimmy

No I don't think that you are too dumb to use it. Someone gave it to me as a gift and I hated it. I find that excel or access works fine, that way you can customize it to how you want it. The links that Bryan gave you should also give you some good ideas. ~christina

I asked the very same question in a previous post. Since then I have purchased Coin Manager by Liberty Street Software to track my collection. It seems to allow me to enter all of my coins. I am even able to catalog all of my World coins. The only draw back is that you will need to enter your world coins manualy as of right now.

Thanks for all your help folks!
I think I'm gonna stick with Excel. I use that at work all day, every day, so overall it might be my best bet.
Thanks again! Jimmy

I use excel at work and have designed many of a spread sheet with it. I am in the process of putting all of my coins on one now and using one "book" and putting tabs in it for each coin. That way I have all of my coins in one workbook.
I have a email account with yahoo and I back up everything to that. YOu can have extra folders in yahoo as I do and it makes for a great back up. So right now at work I could call up my coin sheets.

This topic got me to thinking, "I need to catalogue my coins" Sooo... I downloaded Coinmanage by Liberty Street, and I got to say. it is some good software! I had designed an Access database to keep up with my coins, but this software is super neat. I went ahead and got the license for 49 bux, and I like the fact that what coins I had already entered in the demo would be there in the full version. I am now in the process of putting in photos for all of my better coins. I like the fact that you can use a stock photo, or insert your own. So, I am glad this topic got me off my sorry arse and finally got me to put in all my coins. Oh and for the darkside people, it has most of the foreign coins now, although I did not find a Krugerand, and had to enter it manually. The other thing I liked is that I can enter all the coins I have, then create collections(like dansco 7070) and just drag and drop the coins into the album. That is neat because if I upgrade a coin, I can just drag the old one to the "Loose Coin" collection I setup, and put in the new one into the "Dansco" collection. The other nice thing is it will total up all the values in a collection for you. I am into 2 weeks of it and so far so good. The best I have found so far.... MM

I have used coinmanage since version 2004 I believe and I like it allot myself, every time you upgrade all the coins you entered will always be in there also so you only have to put them in there once no matter what version you are using (I am up to 2007 now) There is no need to upgrade each year unless there is some super cool features they have added that year like in 2006 they added the one click to take you to ebay to look at all the coins that are selling on ebay like the one you have highlighted

A question. If you download the internet version and your system crashes somewhere down the road, will you have to purchase another download? Or, is the CD version the smartest and safest way to purchase Coin Manage?

They E-mail you a key and you can re-install if you need with it. ALWAYS be sure to have good backups though. MM

SE, I was thinking the same thing, so I opted to wait for the disk and load it manually on all of my PC's. I've waited this long, I think I can wait another week or so.

Numismaster http://www.numismaster.com/ came out with a free on-line database last fall that appears pretty good. I haven't tried it yet as I've been very busy, but I plan on experimenting with it later. Only downside is that your data is on someone else's server. Until then I'll continue with excel. Ken
