Planchet error or die crack? Like to hear your opinions as to what caused this and to how this affects the value. Thanks.

Looks more like a planchet error than a die crack to me.

As far as how it might affect the value - One side for damaged planchet, means less money as it's not as desireable to a collector for a set. On the other hand an error collector might pay a premium for it, though a very small premium, a dollar or two more. At least that's the way I feel about my 2¢ pieces I collect.

With a coin this old, and this worn down, I think it would be mostly viewed as a defect worth maybe only a small premium,(as stated above)to the right collector. If it were a modern coin in better condition, it would definantly be viewed as an error.

It is either a lamination or a cracked planchet, need a picture of the edge to determine either way. A cracked planchet would hold a bit of interest for an error collector but a lamination would not really affect the value too much.
