Hello All, I've got an 1845 Seated Liberty silver dollar, which I've had for ages but am only checking on current value of right now. It's in great condition, but the mint mark shows CC (Carson City) mint. From what I've just learned today there is a problem with this since that mint apparently didnt exist at that time. Is this coin a fake? Does it have any value? Please chime in! Thanks
In your case the CC mintmark stands for "Chinese Counterfeit". I have the same coin, bought at the local swap meet knowing it was a fake. I think I paid $2 for mine because the CC mintmark made me laugh. The seller insisted it was real.
i would repeat that timeless saying ... buy the book before you buy the coin. if you had the book you would know the carson city mint wasnt even built until 1869
