So me and a buddy went to my favorite pawn shop today to get some silver and my initial purchase was this:

My-First-Morgans!!

39 bucks was the total for these.

I was done buying what I could when I mentioned I still need to find some morgans to buy because they happen to by my favorite coin and I couldnt find any at a good price. The owner of the shop then said ill be back real quick and came back with a BAG FULL OF MORGANS! Since I dont konw much about the morgans I just cherrypicked what I thought looked good and I came out with these:

This one costed 25 bucks 1921 S
My-First-Morgans!!
My-First-Morgans!!

and this one costed 30 bucks 1889

My-First-Morgans!!
My-First-Morgans!!

I was so excited, How'd I do?

Dear jgray44,
"I was so excited, How'd I do?"
So, you want someone else to tell you what you already know?
OK. You did well.
These two Morgans look just fine to me. You had the opportunity to look through a bag and to pick out the ones which YOU liked? That must have been a lot of fun!
The price? Not too bad at all. Figure $55 for near two ounces of silver with a decent eye appeal.
REAL coins which, having circulated, did genuine work as the means of commerce.
---
On a numismatic note:
The Morgans of 1921 show minor design differences from the dollars of prior years but for the life of me I do not easily see them. So as your "homework," put the two coins side by side and study them. When you can see the differences please get back to me with your findings.
I'd appreciate that a lot.
Good "picking!"

All you have to do is look at the arrow fletches; the difference is plain in these images.

Jgray44, see your Grading forum thread about that '21-S.

I think that I see it.
The "fletch" is the result of providing an arrow with the feathers.
Of the five feathers, from top to bottom, the top two show the difference.
The first and the second "fletch", on a pre-1921, show a pronounced triangular shape, whereas the top two feathers on the 1921 are more linear.
You have saved me and my eyes a lot of grief.
My thanks.
Matthew
